ZHANG YI NING PROFILE

ZHANG YI NING (CHINA), Current World No 1 on the ITTF Jan 2009 Ranking List

Date of Birth 5th October 1981 In Beijing.

Height: 1.68m

Learned to play table tennis at the age of six. Became a member of the Beijing municipal team in 1991 and joined the national team in 1993.

As of June 2005, she was ranked #1 in the ITTF rankings, in both women's singles and women's doubles. She remains a dominant figure. However, though she is #1 in the world of Women's table tennis, she recently lost in the finals of the 2006 Women's World Cup to the #4 women's player, Guo Yan (China).

On Dec. 15, 2005 Zhang Yi Ning became the first table tennis player to win the women's singles titles at the World Championships, World Cup, ITTF ProTour Grand Finals and Chinese National Games in the same year
